For the Love of Moral

A wonderfully done Moral campaign by the students of EL Y2S1! You all did an excellent job!

This morning, my fellow EL juniors have organised a campaign for the Moral subject as requested by their lecturer Mr Muthu. The event started at 10.30am but I have a replacement class at the moment. So right after the class ends, I headed to Block E where the campaign is held. And my juniors were taking a break when I reached there.

There were sketches, press conference, dance performances, debate etc during the 3-hour campaign. I only witnessed the sketches performed by 2 groups and also the press conference. Also a slideshow of pictures showing Behind the Scene of the campaign. The rest I have missed cos I was in Ms Mok's replacement lecture in Block H. But I managed to find out what happened from my juniors.
Closing ceremony of the Moral campaign

EL Y2S1 students with their Moral lecturer Mr Muthu

1st row: (L-R): Liza Kuan, Wen Xin, Sharmilla, Kyle, Daryl, Dante, Cheryl, Jojo
2nd row (L-R): Stippie, Amber, Song Moi, Sze Wan, Aubrey, Kai Fu, Brian, Sheena
3nd row (L-R): Hui Xin, Wai Yeng, Rajina, Sooi Pheng, Leeza, Gale, Nelson, Jen May

These are the students involved in the campaign (each of them holding a sign saying Love Yourself in 4 different languages - Mandarin, Malay, English & Tamil)

And because of their awesome performance, Mr Muthu decided to give them full marks for the campaign. Well done, everyone! U all deserve it for all your efforts put into the campaign!

ELS Debate Compettition

Fuh... finally the debate has drawn its curtains today with EL Y1S3 students edging their Y2S3 seniors to win the competition, with Timothy Kok emerged as the best speaker of the final match.

The whole competition organised by the English Language Society saw the participation of 5 teams, all from the English Language course. Why isn't any other teams from other courses? Perhaps this is because other students are busy with their assignments, presentations and exams. So the EL students had no choice but to take part in the competition.

The competition took place for 3 days - Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday (today). On Tuesday, there were 2 preliminaries rounds with Y2S3 batch facing their Y3S1 seniors in one match and Y2S1 against Y1S3 in another.

In the first match, the debate topic was Only one spouse is allowed to work outside the home. The Y2S3 batch, represented by Yin Mun, Winna Lau & Samantha Yung, were the affirmative team while Hui Ching, Shu Ern & Visha were on the opposing side. The affirmative team won the debate and advanced to the next round with Samantha as the best speaker.

The topic for the Y1S3 vs Y2S1 match was Same sex schools are better than co-ed schools. Y2S1, represented by Cheryl, Dante and Sze Wan, were the affrimatives while their Y1S3 juniors of Timothy Kok, Ngee Derk & Wai Leng were the oppositions. Y1S3 won the round but Cheryl was announced as the best speaker.

Off to the semi-final of the competition on Wednesday. It's between Y2S3 batch and their Y1S1 juniors. The motion of the debate was Same sex marriages should be legalised. Calvin Nanthan, Kim Soon and Sanjay Ramani represented Y1S1 while Y2S3 was fielding Samantha, Winna and Yin Mun. The girls won the debate and advanced into the final with Samantha was the best speaker again.

After a day rest, the competition continues with the final between Y2S3 and Y1S3 today. The topic of the day is Death penalty should be abolished with Y2S3 taking the affirmative side. It is an interesting and lively between the two teams. However, the girls lost to their juniors due to flaws in their arguments. And Timothy Kok won the best speaker award. Prizes were given to both teams and tokens of appreciation were given to the judges as well.

Before the start of the debate

Overall, this event was indeed a great success. The organising chairperson Stippie Chee and his team have put in all their efforts for this meaningful event. Also well done to all the participants who took part and did well in the competition.

Party drugs hazard talk

I went for a talk on party drugs @ Campus Connect just now and gained knowledge from the talk conducted by Dr Daniel Tan. Whoa... it's indeed an eye-opener.

The crowd isn't big, just about 15 ppl. Still the show must go on. Dr Daniel explained about different types of party drugs and effects. Only a few were highlighted though, namely ecstasy pills, crystal meth ('Ice'), syabu, ketamine and rohypnol (the latter two can be used as date-rape drugs). Also, Dr Daniel provided some solutions to this problems. Then, Q & A session. Many questions were raised and Dr Daniel answered them well, allowing members of the floor to gain extra information from the talk.

Later, there's a birthday celebration for twins Shuyi & Shumin, who turned 21 today. A cake was bought from JusToEat for this celebration. It was exactly the same cake that Renjie had when the CF had a joint birthday celebration for Shirley Kwong & her last year. Besides them, my brother David's and my EL junior Daryl's birthday fall on the same day as well. Happy blessed birthday to the 4 of u! All the best to everyone esp Shuyi who's having her final exam at the moment.

CF Evangelistic Meeting

Wow! What an enjoyable night I had in CF just now! The skit was wonderfully done... well done everyone who involved in the skit... Shu Ern the director and narrator, Renjie, Kyle, Calvin, Kelvin Wong, Sui Yen, Oneway, Isabelle, Florencetina, Jensen, Eric Ong, Shu (Tze Yuh), Chang En, Aaron, Ngee Derk, Ezreena & Carlie (Yong Kah Yan)... great sharing by Rev David Loo too

The evangelistics meeting (EM) started off with a worship session led by Kyle and Shu Ern, among the songs were Yesus Pokok dan Kita Cabangnya, This Is How We Overcome (felt like danced out the moves when singing this song but didn't in the end), Eagle's Wing, Hosanna, Open up the Gates, I Just Want You. Later, Joshua and Shirley, the emcees for the event, welcomed the CF members and new friends... Yu Hsia (UCR) & Shuyi were among the newscomers.

Then, the stage was handed over to those who involved in the skit to make their performance. The sketch, narrated by Shu Ern, was abt a girl from Banting, Jessica (played by Renjie) who was going to leave her parents (Kelvin Wong & Sui Yen) to pursue her studies in college (during the sketch, it was said she went to Utar Kampar)... while at the bus stop, Jess' mother was a little emotional cos her precious daughter was leaving her and her father to further her studies study... her parents gave her some advice (rmb to study hard, spend time with God & dun kap leng zai) before she left.. she soon arrived there and met a few housemates, Rebecca (Isabelle), Monica (Florence) & Veronica (Ezreena), who were staying in 1342 Westlake.. Jessica was a brilliant, hardworking student at first... she was the first to answer questions asked by lecturer (Chang En) during classes... she was busy studying all the time until one day her housemate dragged her out to go clubbing... there she was being influenced by other ppl... smoking, taking drugs, drinking... she even got to know a flirtatious guy JenJen Casanova (Jensen)... Jess often went out with him... until one day she found out JenJen was dating with another girl, Mika (Carlie).. and broke up with him.. her results has greatly affected & became unresponsive when the lecturer asked her to answer his questions.. her housemates were worried abt her... saying that she was totally different than she was when she first came.. they even mentioned that she distanced herself from spending time with God... later Rebecca & Monica had heart-to-heart talk with Jessica... after her housemates left, Jessica cried & remembered her parents' advice before she left to pursue her studies... she even spent some time reading the Bible & talking to God, asking Him for forgiveness... after a while, she's back to herself again...eager to go attend CF with her housemates.. there she was introduced to CF chairman, Eric (Ah Derk)... a skit was played during the meeting.. cool! a skit embedded in the whole skit...the skit was sumthing abt obstacles that prevent a girl (Sui Yen) from getting closer to the holy man (Shu)... in the end, the holy man managed to fend off the the devils (flirting, money, drugs & alcohols, beauty & attempted suicide; all these were played by Eric Ong, Calvin, Oneway, Ezreena & Kyle) and reunited with the holy man... it is similar to the skit Everything by Lifehouse.. the skit made Jessica realised that the sketch reflected her life after she was involved in unhealthy habits... in the end of the meeting she stepped forward and Eric prayed for her.. the end.. then the cast came together to sing Amazing Grace with Chris Tomlin's chorus My Chains are Gone.

These are the cast of the skit and MCs of the EM (Shirley and Joshua) .. Eric Ong (not in picture) is also involved in the skit. Well done, everyone!

Then, Rev Loo began entertained the audience with a few songs, namely What A Friend We Have In Jesus, I Am Clean & Can I Pour My Ointment On the Lover Of My Soul, before giving his sermon. Great sharing by him abt the woman who broke a bottle of perfume and poured it on Jesus' feet and then wiped His feet with her hair... he also shared abt Peter the fisherman who has spent overnight catching fish but returned empty-handed but when Jesus asked him to cast out his net again to the sea... the net was so heavy with fish that he can't pull it up.. then Jesus said, 'Come follow me and I'll make u fishers of men' and Peter became one of His 12 disciples... Rev Loo, dubbed the CF's Colonel Sanders, prayed for some ppl there.. Eric Ong presented him with some souvenirs (shown in the picture below)... later all those who went for the meeting involved in a photo taking session before Rev Yong closed the meeting with a word of prayer. Then, refreshment time... all the ppl interacted with one another during this time. After that, everyone started heading home... some even wanna go yum cha some more... but I got work to do, so I balik rumah

Through

Hooray! I'm qualified for the next round of the Spelling Bee competition!
This is an event organised specially for EL students to test their spelling and pronunciation of words. I've got the news abt the event from Hui Ching yesterday.. It's today, 2-5pm at A003.. and it's juz the preliminary round.. the best 5 will be chosen for the next round..
When I got there after lunch, Mr Krishnan was explaining the rules and regulations of the game to some of my coursemates and Y1S1 juniors
Mr Krishnan was the one who explained the rules.. to choose the 5, elimination process will take place. Whenever a participant spelled or pronounced wrongly a word, he/will be eliminated. Thie event goes like this: Mr Krishnan will say a word, the first person will say the word, spell it out and say it again, then the next person says a word, but the word must begin with the last letter of the word the previous person has mentioned.. the word must not less than 3 letters and repetition of the same word was not allowed.. the process goes on and on until 5 ppl left.
We had a demo first before the real thing began.. Y1S1 students will have a go first cos they have class later
After the 5 have been chosen, Y2S1 students stepped in.. Y1S2 has done the competition while Y2S2 not yet..
What I noticed during the competition was that most of the participants mentioned words that end with 'e's.. not only Y1S1, but Y2S1 (our batch).. there were only 9 ppl from my batch contesting: Manmeet, Renjie and her twin cousins Ann & Jan, Helena, Hannah, Eugene, Winna & me.
In the end, the 5 ppl who advanced to the next round were Manmeet, Renjie, Hannah, Helena & me
Will I be the Spelling Bee? not sure.. but wil work out some strategies to try staying long as possible & winning the mini competiition.

HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD!!!

HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD!!!!

This is what I really want to praise the mighty Creator of the universe.
Today, CF resumes as usual... this week's special: movie sermon entitled How Great Is Our God by Louie Giglio... Yup, Louie is the director of Passion conference.. I went for Passion World Tour last year with fellow CGBC members... amazing experience I've earned from the tour
After the usual worship session, the time was handed to our so-called "invited speaker" for his sermon.. shown thru LCD.. the session began with Chris Tomlin handing over the stage to Louie... all the CF listened attentively to Louie's sharing.. but interruption occured in btwn with the clip stuck somewhere.. nvr mind, that part was skipped and the sermon continued
In his sermon, Louie explained that there were a few stars which is tremendously larger than the earth... one of them is the eye of heaven (the sun).. the temperature of its surface is extremely high... there were 3 more stars that he shared... I couldn't rmb the names.. but the sizes of the stars are much, much, much larger than u can imagine... can reach up to quadrilion (n.b. quadrilion = one thousand trillion).. the earth is juz like a golf ball... imagine how many golf balls u need to fill the humongous stars... Louie als shared an amazing thing that he found, laminin.. the shape of the laminin looks like the shape of a cross...I didn't know and realise abt that.. thanks a lot for the wonderful sermon, Louie... this makes me wanna worship and praise Him more and more, apart from His wondrous miracles
"WOW, all I can say is... WOW!!!" [quotation from (fluff)Friends on Facebook].. Our God is an amazing Lord God Almighty... He is indeed a wonderful Creator of the whole universe
Up to date, there are only 7 members who have 100% attendance so far this trimester... Isabelle, Calvin, Chang En, Shirley, Shu Ern, Renjie & ME!! Both Renjie & I were among the 3 person who achieved the feat in the previous trimester, Nesa a.k.a. Nesh being the other one.. but haven't seen him in CF recently, wonder what happened to him.

Campus Overcomer Seminar 2009

This is the brochure of the event

Haiz.. looking at my life in Utar now, I find that I don't really organise my time well enough. Sumtimes, I spent too much time on things which are not important to my studies. Perhaps, I shud have better time management & also I shud set goals that are achieveable.
On Tuesday, a CF member by the name of Ray distributed some brochures on a seminar organised by CZONE, Praise Community Centre (PCC) & KTAR CF. It's the Campus Overcomer Seminar. It's at 8.30pm in TARCollege Kampar on July 16, 2009 (today) & Pastor Nicky Ling is the speaker for this seminar.
Hmm.... I'm wondering whether to attend this seminar at first coz usually I'll be attending church service at Campus Connect every Thursday.. furthermore, I'm on duty this week BUT I'm not in the worship team, neither am I operating the PA system or LCD nor welcoming ppl who come 4 the service.. guess what am I assigned to do this time? Help to clean up after the tea fellowship
Anyway, I've made up my mind to go for the seminar to take down sum useful tips on time management skills and methods to destress. I called PC to let her know that I might not be coming for service. I told her abt the seminar & wud cum over to help out if the seminar finished earlier.
After dinner, I headed to KTAR to attend this seminar... but the security guard didn't even know abt the seminar...nvr mind, i asked sum students who happened to be nearby (perhaps they juz finished class)... sum of them knew abt the seminar while sum are like blur blur when I asked them... anyway, they're helpful enough to tell me the venue for the seminar... headed to Block B thru a long corridor & managed to find the place.. registered myself... got a booklet on the seminar... went in n waited for the seminar to begin...
The event began with a presentation of a funny video clip that evolved around campus life & peer pressure... then, Pastor Nicky took over and share abt eustress dan distress, reasons why students feel stress & ways to overcome.. In btwn his sharing, Pastor Nicky called upon Bro Steven Lew to share his testimony. He also taught us that we shud manage our time well & set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic & Time-oriented) goals... After setting goals, we shud take action, then inspect and observe the situation and finally, elavuation (we celebrate if succeed, improve if fail or dissatsifactory).
At the end, there is a song presentation by the crew members, 3 of them are Nigerians who are currently pursiuing theie studies at University of Nottingham M'sia Campus. After that, Pastor Nicky ended the seminar with a prayer. All the participants gathered together for a brief photo-taking session. Then, refreshment time.
Yes, we can overcome our campus life!

I've learnt a lot from the seminar, and hopefully it wud help me to improve. Time for reflection.
n.b. I've taken the event as news for my mock newspaper project.

Prayer answered

God has indeed answered our prayers after all. It didn't rain this time!!! Praise the Lord!
For the past few weeks, it has been raining esp on Tuesdays, causing difficulties for CF members to go attend the regular meetings. But for the whole day today (Tues), the sky is clear.. I din see any dark clouds at all. Yes, I know it! It's not gonna rain this time.
As usual, those who have transport of their own went to Wesley by themselves, while those who need transport waited 4 the van to cum pick 'em up. This time, nobody ordered any catered food compared to the past few weeks.... coz they had dinner b4 they came... This time, Calvin led the worship n after that, it's time for the talk on Apologetics by Dr Herbert Tan.... all the members listened attentively to what he said abt the topic. Later, Dr Herbert was presented with a souvenir (a CF T-shirt) by Eric Ong. A few announcements has been made by Eric & Mr K b4 this week's meeting came to an end.
CF meeting off next week... more time for members to work on their assignments, prepare for exams etc. blah blah blah!

MJ's memorial

When I heard abt the news of the death of King of Pop on June 25th, I felt heartbroken. He was a such talented singer & his dance moves really amazed me. I love his songs... It's kinda sad that he suddenly left the world juz like that.Anyway, a memorial was being held at the Staples Center in L.A. to pay tribute to the late pop king. Many famous celebrities attended the memorial ceremony, such as Mariah Carey, Magic Johnson, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Queen Latifah, Lionel Richie, Mike Tyson etc.
Among the performances highlighted from the memorial are:
A sharing by Brooke Shields, a very good friend of Jackson's who knew him since Michael was 13, abt memories of her spending time with him
Mariah teamed up with Trey Lorenz for a rousing duet of the Jackson 5 classic I'll Be There.
Queen Latifah recited Maya Angelou's poem We Had Him.
A pregnant Hudson gave an outstanding performance on one of Jackson's hit song Will U Be There.
Britain's Got Talent star, 12-yr-old Shaheen Jafargholi, amazed the crowd with his performance of Who Lovin' U.
Michael's brother, Jermaine, sang Michael's favourite song, Smile.
But none of the performances were able to steal the spotlight from Jackson's daughter, Paris (right), who confessed her love for her late father. This was what she said, "Ever since I was born, Daddy has been the best father you could ever imagine. And I just wanted to say I love him — so much". She broke down in tears after saying those words.
So touching indeed, I feel like crying when Paris uttered those words.
RIP MJ & May Angels Look After You Always!
U will always on my mind & I will rmb u always!

CGBC Bistro Nite

Wat an enjoyable nite I had during the CGBC Bistro Nite
It was on 6th July, 9pm onwards...
It was after my morphology presentation in the afternoon
Wat a tired day after the presentation.. so it's time to enjoy the nite
I went to CGBC a.k.a. Campus Connect as early as 8.30pm to help out & I dressed in the same outfit I wore for presentation (with an addition of a bow tie)... when I went there, I felt awkward a bit coz everyone else there was dressed casually.. it made me wonder if I shud go home to change.. some ppl said it's awkward, but some said I looked smart
Of coz, I planned to dressed smartly for the event b4 this
I was thinking abt being a waiter 4 the event.. but PC (Ping Chin) advised me that I shud be welcoming the guests rather than doing the serving cos she said I might make my outfit dirty if I'm not careful with the food & drinks...
But anyway, I'm fine with it & din insist on doing wat I wanted..
While I was welcoming those who came 4 the event, Irena, Eugene, Shuyi & Jialing will b the ones who are serving our 'customers'
Richard, Robert & the rest were in the kitchen, preparing the food & drinks ordered by our 'customers'.. anyway, as long as being able 2 be part of the ppl who serve, I'm fine with any position I was assigned
Many ppl turned up 4 the event... Calvin, Jensen, Joanne & her bf Daniel Ng, Daniel Chi, Alex.. there were too many ppl there (cant name 'em all, just name a few onli)... Yiling even brought along Wai Fong, Kwan Yi & Shao-Chin (my fellow coursemates) 2 the bistro.. but kinda disappointed coz the one I've invited was not there.. dunno who izit
Ev'ryone was enjoying themselves during the bistro... sum even took sum photos for memory.. kinda happy with the success of this event, since the last time the Campus Bistro was held was last yr
But the sad thing is that I've to leave early around 10.20pm (shortly after Yiling & her frens left) cos there was a discussion of the psychlinguistics group assignment at 10.30pm.. I wish I could stay a little bit longer
Anyway, it was a wonderful time to relax & take a short break from my busy schedule
