Apparently, it is a reality that this 9-year-old Penangite girl has become Malaysia's youngest mother by giving birth to a baby boy recently. The father of the child was her 14-year-old neighbour. But the girl's parents did not lodge a police report. I couldn't believe such thing could happen in our lovely country.
Teenage pregnancies are happening all around the world and this is quite alarming. Even in the country itself, teenage pregnancies happen among the teens. But I was totally surprised that child pregnancy like above would set its foot into Malaysia. This is nothing to be proud of, it's just another case of teenage pregnancy. Girls in today's society tend to reach their puberty earlier than they're supposed to be, around the age of 8 or 9.
Whle this girl becomes Malaysia's youngest mother, the world's youngest mother was Peruvian Lina Medina who gave birth when she was 5 years and 7 months. She entered puberty at 5 and experienced extraordinary development of her body which later she has a bulging stomach. Assuming that she has a tumour, Lina's parents brought her to a hospital for a medical check-up and discovered that Lina was already having a 7-month pregnancy. The 5-year-old delivered a baby boy named Gerardo on May 14, 1939 by Caesaran section. Lina's father was acquitted of child sexual abuse due to lack of evidence and the identity of the one who impregnated Lina was still remain a mystery.
I seriously hope that such case would not happen to my daughters when I have my own family and children in the future.
